Perhaps someone will recognize this woman, who was my fifth cousin once removed.  That means she and my dad were fifth cousins.  Again, I am sure neither of them knew this before they died.

This is Ruth McCue Bell.  She was the daughter of Lemuel Nelson Bell and Virginia Meyer Leftwich.  James Allen (born in the early 1700s) was her fourth great grandfather and my dad's, also.

Ruth was born in 1920 at Qingjiang, Kiangsu, China, where her parents were medical missionaries at the Presbyterian Hospital 300 miles north of Shanghai. Ruth began school, in China but completed high school in Montreat, North Carolina, where her parents lived at the time. In the fall of 1937, she enrolled at Wheaton College in Illinois.

Ruth was a devout woman who originally vowed to never marry.  She planned to devote her life to being a missionary. However, she changed her mind about getting married.  In 1943, she married a young man that she had met in Illinois through friends who had nicknamed him "Preacher."  His real name was William Franklin Graham.  If you haven't figured it out yet, he was the now famous evangelist Billy Graham.
