This is Mom standing by a Pontiac.  This picture appeared in the September 30, 1959, issue of The Lexington Gazette. Here is a copy of the newspaper with the picture. 


I remember when this was published, even though I was only 7 at the time.  I'm not sure how she was chosen for this.  But she was certainly photogenic.  It was about this time that people were telling her she looked like Jackie Kennedy.  Oh, and she had four children at this point!

I talked to Mom tonight & she said that she met the man who ran the newspaper at some event (maybe at Mary's house) and he said he was looking for an attractive woman from Rockbridge County to pose for the picture. She said he told her how to stand & to pull her jacket down. Then he had her move & didn't remind her to straighten her jacket that time. So she thinks it looks OK but would have been better if she had remembered that point.
